The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a directive to all universities, polytechnics, and other higher institutions in Nigeria, mandating the immediate submission of their matriculation lists.
According to the examination body, the move is aimed at curbing the growing trend of illegal admissions, which has become a serious concern in the nation’s tertiary education system. JAMB stressed that only candidates whose names appear on the official matriculation list will be recognized as genuine students of their respective institutions.
A statement from the board explained that the submission process must be carried out promptly and in accordance with JAMB’s guidelines, to ensure proper monitoring and authentication of admissions. The agency also warned that institutions found guilty of bypassing the process or offering unapproved admissions will face strict sanctions.
This latest measure is part of JAMB’s continuous effort to sanitize the admission process, maintain academic standards, and protect students from falling victim to unrecognized or fraudulent academic programs.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the development, describing it as a necessary step toward restoring transparency and accountability in the country’s tertiary education system.
