Kwara South Communities Deserted as Terrorists Wreak Havoc, Yoruba Union Gives Gov AbdulRazaq 7-Day Ultimatum

Ilorin, Nigeria
– Fear and panic have gripped several communities in Kwara South as terrorist attacks continue to force residents out of their homes. Villages once known for farming and trade have been deserted, with locals fleeing to neighboring towns in search of safety.

The spate of attacks, according to eyewitnesses, has left many dead, while properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed. Farmers say they can no longer access their lands due to the activities of armed groups, raising fears of looming food shortages in the region.

In response, the Yoruba Union has strongly condemned what it described as the government’s “failure to protect lives and property.” The group, in a statement issued over the weekend, directly blamed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for what it called “negligence and inaction.”

The Union further issued a seven-day ultimatum to the governor to take decisive action against the attackers or face mass protests across the state.

“Our people can no longer sleep with both eyes closed. Communities are under siege, and yet, the government appears helpless. We demand immediate security intervention,” the statement read.

Residents who spoke with reporters also called for urgent military deployment to the troubled areas, saying local vigilantes are overwhelmed and ill-equipped to confront the heavily armed terrorists.

Security experts warn that if swift action is not taken, the crisis in Kwara South could spread to other parts of the state, worsening Nigeria’s already fragile security situation.

The Kwara State Government has yet to issue an official response at the time of filing this report.
