Tinubu Under Fire as ADC Condemns N712bn Airport Renovation Plan

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has slammed the Federal Government over its proposed plan to spend a whopping N712 billion on the upgrade of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, describing the move as reckless and a clear case of misplaced priority.

In a strongly worded statement released on Saturday, the opposition party accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of being insensitive to the realities Nigerians are currently facing.

At a time when millions of Nigerians can barely afford food, when hospitals are in deplorable condition, and public universities remain underfunded, the Tinubu-led government wants to throw over N700 billion into a single airport project. This is not only outrageous, but also shows the administration is completely out of touch with the suffering masses,” the statement read.

The ADC called on the National Assembly to step in and halt what it termed a wasteful use of taxpayers’ money, urging the government to instead channel such funds to critical sectors like healthcare, education, and rural development.

Meanwhile, supporters of the project argue that the airport upgrade is long overdue and necessary to modernize the nation’s aviation sector and attract foreign investment. But critics say it benefits only a privileged few, while the majority of citizens continue to grapple with poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship.

As reactions continue to pour in, many Nigerians are questioning the government’s spending priorities and calling for greater transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
