Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has come to the defense of President Bola Tinubu, describing the Nigerian leader as approachable and open to dialogue despite growing criticism of his administration.
Wike made the remarks while addressing journalists on Monday, stressing that the President remains committed to engaging with Nigerians and listening to diverse viewpoints. According to him, Tinubu’s leadership style demonstrates accessibility rather than aloofness, contrary to claims from some opposition voices.
“People can say whatever they like, but the truth is that President Tinubu is approachable. He listens, he consults, and he is willing to engage with those who have genuine concerns about the country,” Wike said.
The minister also dismissed suggestions that Tinubu has distanced himself from citizens, insisting that the President continues to meet stakeholders across sectors in a bid to address Nigeria’s pressing economic and security challenges.
Wike, who served as Rivers State governor before his current appointment, urged Nigerians to be patient with the administration’s reforms. He argued that while some of Tinubu’s policies may appear tough in the short term, they are intended to stabilize the economy and improve governance in the long run.
Political observers note that Wike’s comments come at a time of heightened scrutiny of Tinubu’s leadership, particularly in relation to fuel subsidy removal, rising inflation, and ongoing security concerns.
By affirming the President’s accessibility, Wike appears to be reinforcing Tinubu’s image as a leader willing to engage with the people, even in the face of criticism.
