Peter Obi Blasts Tinubu Over ₦712 Billion Airport Renovation Amid Widespread Hunger

Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has come down hard on President Bola Tinubu's administration for allocating a massive ₦712 billion for airport renovations, while over 34 million Nigerians continue to battle hunger and extreme poverty.

In a statement that has sparked nationwide reactions, Obi criticized the federal government’s priorities, insisting that the allocation is not only insensitive but also a clear indication of misplaced governance focus.

“This is not the time for luxury projects. When a nation has over 34 million people going hungry, leaders must prioritize human development over aesthetics,” Obi said.

He stressed that the country is currently facing one of its toughest periods, with inflation at alarming levels, food insecurity on the rise, and millions of families unable to meet basic daily needs. Obi argued that the ₦712 billion earmarked for airport upgrades would have been better spent on agriculture, education, healthcare, and other sectors that directly impact the lives of the people.

The former Anambra State governor also called on the government to channel public funds into productive ventures that will lift Nigerians out of poverty, rather than undertaking projects that have little to no immediate benefit to the masses.

Obi’s remarks have drawn support from various civil society groups and Nigerians on social media, many of whom echoed his concerns and called for better leadership focused on solving pressing national issues.
